The Constitution’s Going-Out-Of-Business Sale: Enjoy Huge Savings
Court rejects challenge to Arizona border fence | U.S. | Reuters
If you needed any more evidence that the U.S. is ruled by no law other than the whim of whatever party controls Congress, see this case. The Republican party wanted something — the border fence — and so they enacted a law that said any and all laws that might interfere with the building of the fence - if it kills animals, drains lakes, etc — could be ignored. Today, the Supreme Court just offered a tacit compliance, It’s now official and legal for the DHS to ignore whatever laws they don’t don’t like, from here on out.
I can’t think of anything that the phrase “waive all legal requirements” would prevent. Workers not working fast enough? It’s now acceptable to whip them. That’s preposterous, you think? Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff would never order that? Maybe not, but there is now no law in the land that says he couldn’t.
Can you think of anything more damaging to the Constitution than this? I don’t know what to do. It feels like if people aren’t outraged by this, they’ll never be outraged. That’s why I and the rest of the sheep will just go back to watching our regularly scheduled Youtube videos. I feel sick and powerless. The choices are: Devote myself to activism and end up in jail to protect a way of life for a populace that clearly doesn’t care and probably deserves the government it gets. Or, just shrug and say “Gee this sucks! Who’s pitching for the Phils tonight?*” What will I choose?
* Trick question, the Phillies are off tonight. And, there’s your answer.
