Play music while you read: “Crystal” - New Order

One day I went out to shoot. I grabbed the Mamiya and headed out on foot. I impulsvely got onthe bus, I thought I’d go to NoHo. I have unfinished business there, I need to take photos to replace the roll that was stolen in the Canonet. But, when I was there I decided to jump on the Red Line. I thought I’d check out Hollywood instead. Once on the train, I called an audible and went all the way downtown. I don’t know why. That was a lot of deviation from the original plan. Anyway, I was taking out “the unc lens” — a 55mm piece for the mamiya 645E,

I got off at Pershing square and walked up the hill to the Disney Concert Hall, a legendary building designed by Frank Gehry. I spent about an hour walking around it. I got a couple images I liked. I had the film developed at The Icon, but I scanned it myself.  The results were startling. This one in particular:

There appears to be a light leak, but from where I could not say. It doesn’t seem to affect the neighbor frames on the roll. Yet, the colors and tones look like a painting. That’s straight out of the scanner with a few pieces of dust cloned out. The tones and texture comes direct off the negative as scanned. I’m mildly annoyed that I can’t explain how it happened, since I could never duplicate it. But, I do like it. WatSu tells me not to think about it. That it’s magic! Maybe it is. Liane says it’s like the cover of a Heinlein novel. I totally see that. That’s why I called it “Future Bright”

The second winner is this. In this case I did some color adjustments in Lightroom to get what I wanted.

It’s not quite as good, and if I were an artist I’d never upload it. But, it’s my stream of consciousness, so here it is. It reminded me of a crystal formation, a living thing.
