Some cat in North Carolina is selling his ImageTech 3Dfx 35mm Camera. Of course, who does he cite as the number one mackdaddy 3Dfx-pert? Yours truly. :) Good luck with the sale, guy! I hope someone takes proper advantage of this sneakily cool film camera!

When You Aim at the Moon, It’s a Shot In the Dark

ninja boost engaged, steve at buffalo brothers (by Mick Ø Sees Ghosts)
I posted this to Craigslist, looking for some way to reach a different level of photography. No replies yet. Any advice for ways to improve my pitch would be welcomed. I really think this could result in an amazing little blurb book with the right partners. Dare I say, we could make beautiful music??? The pitch:

“I’m an experienced photographer who’s shot a lot of live music, and I’m in search of something a little deeper. I’m looking for a serious local band or musician to work with on a collaborative photographic documentary.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

We trade some emails, trade examples of our work. If we think we’d be a fit, I’ll shoot some of your practice sessions, some shows, maybe some candids at home. I can do digital or film. I love the black&white film feel, but I love color as well. I have location lighting experience, so we can get some great shots. Ideally, you’re thinking about or ready to start recording an album and we could do behind-the-scenes stuff in the studio.

You can of course have digital copies of the photos themselves for use on your myspace or album cover or whatever. But, with a decent pool of photographs documenting your creative process, I retreat off to design and put together a photo book on someplace like blurb.com. (They make some really nice looking books) If you dig the book, you can get it *at cost*. If you really, really like it, we can see about getting more copies to sell to your fans, and we split the profits, include with deluxe versions of your album or whatever. At the very least, you’ll have a scrapbook of a milestone in your life. If you don’t like it, no cost to you whatsoever.

What do you think? Reply to this ad to discuss. “

Craigslist Fun for Monday

A series of funny listings for real gear in the “photo/video” section of Los Angeles Craigslist. Some homophobic tics make the seller even more nutty. That’s Reseda for you.

The ad for the Vivitar reads:

Stock the Vivitar 283 flash comes with an inferior, sub-standard, faggot hot foot mount. But this flash has one of the bitchin’ aluminum mounts from Holly Enterprises. Plus a velcro-attach bounce card. With this flash you will be swinging big and taking the best of the best exposures. Plus if some snobish photog blocks your once in a lifetime shot of the ghost of Jim Morrison, you can smash him over the head with your camera without worrying about the flash breaking off…then take the image of backdoor man’s vapors.

Feb 20 – TAMRAC PHOTO BACKPACK – $50 - (Reseda)

Feb 20 – LOWPRO TREKKER BACKPACK CAMERA BAG – $25 - (Reseda)

Feb 20 – MINOLTA IV F FLASH METER – $100 - (Reseda)

Feb 20 – QUANTUM TURBO BATTERY PACK – $75 - (Reseda)

Feb 20 – NIKKOR 16MM 3.5 FISHEYE – $100 - (Reseda)

Feb 20 – VIVITAR 283 FLASH WITH HOLLY ENT. ALUMINUM MOUNT – $50 - (Reseda)

Feb 20 – NIKKOR 50MM 1.8 MANUAL FOCUS – $50 - (Reseda)

Play song “Ridin’ Dirty” – Chamillionaire

They see my Rollei
They hatin’
Patrollin’ and tryin’ a catch me shootin’ dirty!

I picked up this old beat up Rollei on Craigslist. The seller listed it as a 3.5F but after checking out Rolleiclub, I’m pretty sure it’s an Automat from around 1949.. It also has a shutter that seems to be non-standard (“Synchro-Compur” instead of “Compur-Rapid”) which means it only goes to 1/250 instead of 1/500. I also lost 2 rolls of film when the shutter completely gummed up. But, I was patient and after some work it seemed to loosen up. I might save up some cash to take it to the the mack daddy Rollei guru in Manhattan Beach one of these days.

Rolleiflex Automat 6x6

But, it works for now. I shot and developed a roll of Tri-X. I like the results. Some color pics will be back today or tomorrow.
