The peppy new video from global superstar Bruno Mars for his song “Locked Out Of Heaven” features some pretty strange stylized processing to sort-of look like 1980s videotape, but doesn’t really. More importantly, it also features a twin-lens-reflex camera with a pistol grip and small flash. I’m not going to say for sure it’s a Rollei, but it very well could be. And, I’m noticing a striking lack of sync cord that would be required to allow the flash to actually fire when the shutter fires. It’s a rather strange prop, given the set. Nothing says the 80s like a camera from the 50s. Oh well, good fun anyways. And if you were longing for some Zenyatta-era Police jams, this song might either soothe or irritate you.
(h/t to Instant Pete’s Polaroid World for spotting this)
Have you seen any interesting cameras in the media lately?

I’m researching songs about cameras and photography and I came across this dark chillwave ambient by a teenager from Erlangen, Bavaria. (I think that’s Germany!) His whole EP is lo-fi photography inspired… and of course he goes by the name Light Leak!
His EP is available for free download at Bandcamp:

Since no one believes my tales of battling Hedgetea in the ’70s, here is a video from one of our fights in Morocco in 1977. It’s very shaky, the grain is atrocious, and my transfer from Super 8 to digital was hurried. Hedgetea is in his signature “white warrior” costume, I am in black.
Our battles were always fierce and evenly matched. This time, he bested me.

“50 Ways To Leave Your Lover” – Paul Simon
I just wanted to make sure nobody at all missed my favorite NFL player’s wondrous miscue. His name is Dan Orlovsky, and he’s a backup QB for the worst team in the league. Greatest player ever!. Ever? Seriously, are all Orlo(v)skys really absent-minded? Is it a genetic thing? This is so brutal.

While listening to Janelle Monae‘s EP about sci-fi robot love-affair-gone-wrong something started nagging me about the track “Many Moons” (play it). Something about it seemed so familiar, so elusive deep in my childhood memories. Then, I finally got it.
I never knew this was the Pointer Sisters! Sesame Street was the best. Is it an homage? Was it on purpose? Subconscious? I think it must be by design. Share your opinion in the comments.

Play this while you read: “Summertime” – Kenny Chesney
You’ve gotta feel a little bad for superstar country singer Kenny Chesney. He’s on top of the country game, living the good life. Yet, he’s seemingly always facing some Brokebackish speculation about his choice of after-dark hayloft companionship. Even when he goes out of his way to be manly and actually go to football practice with the New Orleans Saints, his buddy, coach Sean Payton, has to go and drop this eyebrow-raising anecdote.
“You know, Mike McKenzie and Kenny Chesney are from the opposite ends of the earth, and yet here they are that one afternoon and Kenny notices Mike’s wearing the same clothes he’s been in all day from his rehab … and I’d love to see this – but Chesney’s undressing McKenzie,” Payton said.

C’mon, let Kenny be Kenny!
XM Satellite Radio recently gave Chesney his own station : No Shoes Radio on XM18. I crank it on the way home every day!

I’m not normally one for wacko conspiracy theories, but this one is eerie. This can not be natural! We as a nation must ask ourselves what the hell is going on?!?!
Update: The original source of this video was “dbootsthediva” on Youtube. She has dozens of other videos depicting perceived evidence of shady military-industrial experiments — including many of “chemtrails” (What are chemtrails, you ask?) and microwave radiation making her house glow and/or buzz. Apparently, she deleted this rainbow video. (Someone else saved it and reuploaded it.) Was it because she was embarrassed by it? In any event, she’s a fascinating character. Her Youtube page astutely notes:
For example,
price of soda is outrageous. Shredded
cheese has gone from 8 ozs to 6 ozs
n now they r going for 5 ozs.SOMEBODY IN OUR GOVERNMENT SHOULD
OF LOOKED INTO IT, BROUGHT IT UP
Bonus: She’s also on Flickr. More videos after the jump.
